Reading lists are OPML documents that point to RSS feeds, like most of the OPML documents you find, but instead of subscribing to each feed in the document, the reader or aggregator subscribes to the OPML document itself. When the author of the OPML document adds a feed, the aggregator automatically checks that feed in its next scan, and (key point) when a feed is removed, the aggregator no longer checks that feed. It’s a kind of having somebody else taking care of your aggregator subscriptions adding new feeds and removing obsolete ones for you. i.metaRSS allready supports the OPML import and export but it’s only limited for local files, but having the possibility to import web based OPML was in the plan and now we should add not just a simple import but a regular check like a feed subscription. And I would add that a filtering ala iResearch based on certain OPML Reading lists could be a great feature.

As some of you had noticed on Saturday first of October, the hosting service that we used had some glitches and the site was offline for the most part of the day. Actually the hosting company made some updates that caused us troubled with the MySQL DB.

We reacted as fast as possible and we moved the site to another server. Unfortunately, we had to make the restore from the backups of the 25th of September as the most recent ones were equally corrupted.

So the users that registered between the 25th and 30th of September they need to register again.

We apologies from all the metaRSS users for the inconvenience occurred because of this situation. and we assure you that will make sure of the reliability of our future service providers.

Comme certains d’entre vous ont pu le constater, samedi dernier le 1er octobre, le service d’hébergement que nous utilisons a connu des ratés. En effet, une grande partie de la journée le service a été interrompu pour tous nos utilisateurs parce que l’hébergeur a effectué une mise à jour qui a causé des problèmes dans la base de données.

Nous avons réagi rapidement en effectuant un déménagement sur un autre serveur. Malheureusement, nous avons dû reculer jusqu’aux sauvegardes du 25 septembre car pour les plus récentes, il y avait un problème de corruption des fichiers.

Or, tous ceux qui s’étaient inscrits entre le 25 et le 30 septembre devront le faire de nouveaux.
